Some definition to help you choose the best search option:
- Quick Search
The quick search function is the simplest search tool to use. Simply go to the homepage and in the search box type a keyword or phrase and hit search. Your search results will be displayed.
- Search Preferences
If you have frequently used searching parameters this function allows you to set Gekko Images to remember your preferred search method and use it as the default search. For example, if you did not want to include any black and white images in your search, or if you only wanted to find landscape images, then by setting this in the preferences Gekko would find and display images accordingly.
- Using Keywords
All images in the catalog have keywords or phrases associated to them. By searching these keywords Gekko Images is able to display image associations that match your keyword choice.
Keywords can be:
- Nouns that identify the main subject within the photograph. E.g., Camera or Boat.
- Adjectives that describe the nouns such as old or small.
- Colours or other photograph specific identifiers such as, blue, red or other colours, black & white, detail, macro or deep etched.
- Using Categories
All images in the Gekko Images catalog are classified and grouped in industry categories. This provides another method of finding images. For instance if you are working on a fashion and lifestyle account you can select to search images which fall into the Fashion & Lifestyle category + the keyword you are searching for.
- Search for similar
This option looks at the associated meta data and selects all similar images from the database
- Images by a photographer
Selects all images by the same photographer
- Using wildcard characters (*)
Is useful when you are unsure of the spelling or when you need to search multiple terms with a common element. For example a searching of 'Mc*' would return:...McKay, McErlane, McKinsey etc.
- Searching for File name or image number
If you know the image number you can search for that image directly
- Refining your search
Some keyword searches will return many thousands of images. You can refine the search results by conducting a refined search on the returned search set. For example a search of 'Sydney, returning 1800 images could be further refined by searching for 'markets' within the 'Sydney' set to further reduce the original Sydney search down to images of markets in Sydney.
- Boolean searches
Allow 2 or more keywords to be combined together in a single search. For example: 'Sydney' AND 'markets' AND 'crowds' will return a set where all 3 criteria are present and should render an image set of crowded sydney markets such as Paddy's markets or Oxford Street markets.
