Royalty-Free (RF)

What are the benefits of Royalty-free images and when should I use them?
There are an umber of benefits to royalty-free images that make them the ideal way to by photography for most situation;

• Speed - simply log onto Gekko Images, search for the image you need, download it and you are away
• Choice - there is a huge variety of image which means you are sure to find what you need
• Pay ONCE- and use the image as often as you need
• Economical - only pay for the image size you require. Developing a web site, well you only need pay for 72 dpi web resolution images
• Easy to manage - no rights management issues means you or your clients will never be in breach of copyright again
• No photographic shoots to organise and pay for
• Variety - access the best photographers from around the world or from the next suburb
  

How are the fees calculated?
All fees for royalty-free photographs are determined by file size only. And all images of the same size/resolution are the same price. Fees are one-off with virtually no restrictions on how they can be used.

Rights-Managed (RM)

What are the benefits of Rights-managed images and when should I use them?
There are times when royalty-free images are not suitable to your needs or you cannot find the images your require as royalty-free stock. The common things to consider are;

• RF images are non-exclusive meaning that the images you select may appear elsewhere in the market. This maybe problematic when selecting 'Brand' images, images that need to be synonymous with the organisation they represent. Therefore anytime you require some form of exclusivity for an image then we recommended buying Rights-managed images.

Aren't Rights-managed images difficult to buy and manage?
They are definitely more difficult to purchase and manage than RF images. This is a result of having to purchase a licence based upon the usage of the image. Other sites ask buyers to answer lots of questions about the image usage which buyers find hard to answer. And flexible licences are EXPENSIVE.

Has Gekko Images simplified this process at all?
Yes. Gekko Images has developed a streamlined method for the purchase of rights-managed images. We call it our 4-step process and it makes the process much easier. We don't ask you questions that you don't have the answers to. All you need to know is the following;

1. What are the images for? E.g., Advertising, Web, Marketing.
2. Where will it be used - territory? E.g., Australasia
3. How long do you require a licence for? E.g.,1,3,6,12 months
4. Do you require exclusivity for the image?

Even this seams like a lot but compared to how everyone else manages it it very streamlined.

How are the fees calculated?
All fees are based upon the Royalty-free fees plus standard additions for each tariff level. This makes it easy for you to calculate the price for any image if you know the licence requirements. And all images will be the same price under this method.
