points

Gekko has released a subscription system - called Gekko Points - which enables you to licence images to buyers that would otherwise not purchase from Gekko or other premium sites. The rise of subscriptions sites has put tremendous pressure on prices for all major libraries. After considerable consideration we have determined that, all things considered, there is more benefit for members in offering a points system than not having one, as this is a trend that is here to stay.

How Does it Work?

There are a number of controls in place to ensure that there is product differentiation from our premium service. One, only royalty-free images are sold under points. Two, we limit size of images to 3 sizes only with the largest size being 3200 pixels. Three, we offer NO customer support. All searches are self serve only.

Gaining Access to New Markets

We strongly believe that points represent a different market segment and buyers in one do not appear in the other. Therefore it is beneficial for photographers work to be present in both segments. If they are not then potential sales are missed by photographers.

How Do I Get Paid?

Members receive AUD$0.50 for each point sold, regardless of any Gekko discounts. All Points payments are handled through PayPal ONLY. Each download is tracked and reported in your homepage. When your account has reached 100 points you can cash the points out to your PayPal account. We use PayPal as it provides the best way to give you as much as possible for your points.

Note that Gekko maintains the 50:50 commission unlike iStock which takes 80% of the points transaction.

Points for COMP images

Note that Gekko does not provide COMP downloads for Gekko Points for free. Each COMP download is charged at 2 points per download. This ensures that members get a continual stream of points as there are many more COMP downloads than image sales.

How Do I Opt Out?

You can opt out of the Gekko Points program globally during the registration process or on your Business Details page at any time.

Please note that Gekko Points only uses RF images so you can also opt out individual images by setting the licence type to Rights Managed (RM) and they will be excluded from Gekko Points sales.
